Ansh Nasta is an Analyst at the Energy Futures Initiative (EFI), where he applies his research and analytical skills to support the development and integration of low-carbon technologies to combat climate change.
Before joining EFI, Ansh worked as a Marketing Analyst at Smart Wires Inc, a company that builds devices to increase the utilization of transmission lines and integrate more renewables onto the grid. While he wore many hats in this role, one of his favorite experiences was researching about the offshore wind industry and developing solutions to overcome transmission congestion and integrate more wind power onto the grid. He also analyzed transmission policy and wrote responses to policy dockets.
Ansh worked on a variety of energy projects during his masters at Carnegie Mellon University. With a professor at the Scott Institute for Energy Innovation, Ansh modeled the relation between wind power curtailment, transmission congestion and electricity prices in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP). He used ArcGIS to assess the offshore wind potential of Hawaii. He investigated the prospect of replacing the university’s shuttle buses with electric school buses — a topic that he delved into further during his summer internship at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF).
Ansh received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, with minors in Business and Sustainable Energy, from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2018. He earned his Master of Science degree in Energy Science, Technology & Policy from Carnegie Mellon University in 2019. Outside of work, Ansh enjoys a variety of hobbies — reading, watching movies, sports and TV shows, listening to podcasts, playing video games, cooking, cycling, hiking, and playing soccer and tennis. Ansh truly believes in sustainability and tries to incorporate it into his everyday life.
